A toy store in the UK has launched the world’s first ever Sikh action figure collection in an effort to represent the community in the industry.
The Khalsa Toy Store has done so to make Sikh children feel represented, by first releasing their Baaj Singh’s action figure who is a brave fighter and known the world over for his valour.
After the success and love that the first action figure received, the store owners launched five brand new action figures which include, the first ever Sikh female warrior figurine Tegh Kaur, alongside Sher Singh and Baaj Singh 2.0, Birmingham Live reports.
Directors Sukh and Tejinder Singh, told Birmingham Live, “Growing up we’ve all had idols, superheroes and heroines we felt drawn to and inspired by. However, why didn’t any of our action figures, kids’ toys or magical characters represent attributes from our own culture and motherland, when we have such a rich and iconic history of truly inspiring people?
“It’s imperative for young children to learn the tales of our forefathers and mothers and feel proud of their heritage. This is why we want to introduce our image and identity to the toys and collectables industry where we will standout just as we are supposed to thanks to the blessings bestowed upon us by our beloved Guru.”
Birmingham Live asked the bosses why they felt it was important to launch a female action figurine, to which the replied, “We feel it’s just as important for our young Queens to be able to relate to the strong and immovable character of our brave warrior Kaurs as well as our Singhs.
“We like to use puritan Gursikh names to familiarise our young audiences and families with our history and traditions. The characters have a brief backstory based on Khalsa Warriors who traditionally guarded Northern districts of Panjab against evil invading forces of Kalyug.
“Reflecting how Tat Khalsa Singhs (men) and Singhnia (women) would protect their villages and Gurughars (gurdwara) from Abdalis invasions. As directors of Khalsa Toy Store we are forever grateful to Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj and their Gursikhs for their countless blessings with this new venture.”
