A man has been charged with the murder of engineering graduate Tejaswini Kontham, and the attempted murder of a second woman in Wembley.
Keven Antonio Lourenco De Morais, a 23-year-old Brazilian man from Neeld Crescent was charged on Thursday, 15 June with the murder of Kontham and the attempted murder of another woman.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates Court that same day.
The charges follow after the police were called to the residential address where the murder took place at 10am on Tuesday, 13 June to reports of a stabbing.
Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and found 27-year-old Kontham and the other woman, aged 28, suffering from critical knife injuries.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, Kontham succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Her family was later informed of the incident.
The young woman was just days away from going back to India to get married.
Kontham’s distraught father, who lives in Hyderabad, India, told a local TV channel that she had travelled to London three years ago to complete her master’s degree.
He added that she had visited India in August last year for a month, and was supposed to go for her wedding, which was supposed to be held in a few days.
“She said she will return after [her studies] were finalised. She had resigned from her temporary job,” he claimed.
Her mother couldn’t hold back her tears and told reporters, “She was supposed to come home in a few more days.” She has requested the British authorities to repatriate her daughter’s body back to Hyderabad as quickly as possible.
The second woman was taken to hospital with stab injuries that were later assessed as not life-threatening.
Two other people arrested in connection with this investigation were released with no further action.
