New Film Release For The Punjabi Farming Community
Posted On January , 2024
A new documentary film is being released called ‘Too Much Democracy’ aimed at the Punjabi farming community in Letchworth Garden City marking the recent National Farmer’s Day in India celebrated on 23rd December.
The film is produced by Anokhi Publications whilst ‘ReelN’ have curated this film to serve the local North Hertfordshire Community and lined this up for their next film club edition supported by Film Hub South East.
Film Synopsis
In November 2020, Farmers of India marched towards the capital of Delhi, to mark their protests against the newly introduced Farm Bills by the Indian Government. When stopped by the security forces from entering the city, they did something that was never seen before. They decided to stay on the roads to the capital for the indefinite time period. Thousands of farmers and their families resided on those roads for one whole year.
This documentary, shot across the year, explores this one-of-a-kind event, where these torchbearers of Democracy donned all weather conditions from the coldest nights to honest days on the tar roads, emphasizing on the importance of democracy, voice of people and the role people play in nation-building.
The film features inputs by eminent experts and leaders as well as a number of farmers who participated in the protests. It is a modest attempt to bring forth a comprehensive picture of the much-maligned protests in right-leaning national media and in the popular imagination in general. In the journey through this year the maker seeks the answer to one simple question. Do the values of Gandhi still mean something in new India?
The film will be shown at St Christopher’s School, Letchworth on Sunday 21st January from 4:30pm and with a PG certification, families are welcome to attend. The film includes English subtitles.
