Police investigating a fatal collision in Leeds have released details of the woman that died in the incident and issued a renewed appeal for witnesses recently.
Athira Anilkumar Laly Kumari, aged 28, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which occurred at the junction of Stanningley Road and Cockshott Lane, Leeds just before 8.30am on Wednesday, 22 February.
Kumari was one of two pedestrians waiting at a bust stop that suffered serious injuries in the collision, which involved a black Volkswagen Golf and caused damage to a bus stop.
The second pedestrian, a man in his forties, is continuing to recover in hospital.
The Golf driver, a 25-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released on bail as enquiries continue into the collision.
Enquiries by The Major Collision Enquiry Team have established that the Golf driver had travelled on the Armley Gyratory before it drove down Stanningley Road towards Bradford.
Kumari started studying at Leeds Beckett University in January 2023 and was residing at Armley Road.
The Leeds Malayalee Association officials have informed that the Indian High Commission in London has passed over the devastating case to the Indian Consulate in Birmingham. It added that the woman’s relatives have been informed and they are working to bring the dead body back home from Bradford.
Kumari was married with a one-year-old daughter. Her husband Rahul Sekhar lives in Oman. She hailed from Thonakkal, Mangalapuram, near Attingal in Thiruvananthapuram district, reports have stated.
The police have requested anyone who has footage of the vehicle prior to the collision, or who can assist the investigation, to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101 or by using the 101LiveChat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website.
