Future Dreams Breast Cancer Charity has partnered with iconic skincare brand, Palmer’s, to provide support to those touched by breast cancer, focusing on the specific needs of the South Asian community.
Future Dreams and Palmer’s will work together to break down barriers, providing emotional and practical support to this community, which will include a programme of events and activities in line with their specific needs.
The first workshop, ‘Samosa Chaat & Chat’ will be held on 28th February at Future Dreams House.
It will be hosted by Dr Fharat Raja, Consultant Medical Oncologist and Jasdeep Gahir, Oncoplastic Breast and General Surgeon, both of whom have a great understanding and experience of the issues that people within the South Asian community face, following a breast cancer diagnosis. Chef and baker extraordinaire, Shabnam Russo, will be making Samosa Chaat and her own freshly brewed chai tea in the Dream kitchen for all to enjoy.
Dr Fharat Raja said, “South Asian women face a unique set of circumstances that can make a diagnosis of breast cancer incredibly isolating and cause severe trauma.
“There is often stigma, shame, and fear of discrimination from family or their communities. It is also a common misconception that cancer is not something that affects Asian women.
“We need to break down many of these myths and encourage women to seek help and support so that they are able to lead the best lives they can and share their experiences with women of similar backgrounds.”
Sessions supported by Palmer’s will provide attendees with a non-clinical, friendly, safe, and nurturing environment to open up about their personal situation and the opportunity to form peer friendships whilst growing their support networks. Workshops will be held
monthly and the subjects of each will be tailored to the needs and desires of those attending.
Zahira Beddou, Director of Marketing at Palmer’s UK, said, “Palmer’s UK, is proud to be working with Future Dreams to help create bespoke activities for the South Asian community.
“Supporting women from different ethnic backgrounds and celebrating beauty in all its shapes, form and colour has always been at the core of what Palmer’s has done from the very beginning.
“We are delighted to be able to launch the first event within the fantastic Future Dreams House and their delightful Kitchen.
“We are also thrilled to have Dr Raja and Miss Gahir to launch and host our first event and look forward to working with them on many future events.
“We are certain that these new events will help the South Asian women affected by breast cancer feel they have a space to come together and be supported, share experiences, and make long term friendships and support.”

*Please note this workshop is only for those touched by breast cancer in the South Asian community.
